"a month later..": On December 30, 2021, I recorded 2 realizations of a piece I'd initially started working on in September, 2020, called "88 Instruments" that centers around samples I made of me playing 88 instruments in my collection. At that time, I was still new to playing the piece & using some of the electronics involved so I was staying pretty close to featuring the samples. By a month later, on January 30, 2022, I'd learned quite a bit more about the electronics so the realization I made that day was fairly far afield from the samples. To use a dramatic simile, I've come to think of the process of performing this as akin to controlling the flow of water & lava in an irrigation system on the sides of a volcano that's beginning to erupt. In other words, I flick switches to control a flow of forces that sweep along counterbalancing each other somewhat chaotically. Not surprisingly, I love the sounds that result & I have fun setting them loose but even with 3 cameras providing different viewpoints I don't find my playing this in my (M)Usic Rm to be that interesting to watch.
In order to enhance the visuals, I culled thru my electronic image aRCHIVE for that month & picked 'memes' & other images that'd been sent me, a piece made of rubber-stamps on stationery I designed (long ago), a photo of a bad translation made in Brazil sent to me by a friend, & footage of a difficult-to-see bridge that'd just collapsed the day before in Pittsburgh. These extra visuals may not do the trick of making this visually exciting but many of the sentiments expressed in the 'memes' & rubber stamps may be found interesting, agreeable or disagreeable - depending on which side of the razor-wire fence one is on.
